      Annual Conference 2013 | Becoming a Researcher

On 27 June 2013 the Center for Doctoral Studies invites experts to discuss different aspects of the process of becoming a researcher, starting with a reflection on the famous lecture of Max Weber “Science as a vocation, Wissenschaft als Beruf” from 1919. Today, almost hundred years later, Weber’s text is often still quoted, despite the fact that the academic environment and career paths of doctorate holders have changed dramatically. Performance driven production of knowledge has become predominant in academia and fostering the development of young scholars as individuals receives less attention.

The Center for Doctoral Studies invites doctoral candidates, supervisors and researchers from all disciplines to discuss different aspects of the process of becoming a researcher.

When: 27 July 2013, 11 am – 5:30 pm
Where: Vienna University Observatory (Universitätssternwarte), Türkenschanzstraße 17, 1180 Vienna

The programme can be found on the website of Center for Doctoral Studies. To register please click here.

LabVisit: Cognitive Science in the Humanities| 7 June 2013

The LabVisit is organized by the Research Group “Cognitive Studies in the Humanities”. The Research Group was founded by Prof. Dr. Christa Knellwolf King, Lise Meitner Fellow (FWF), in autumn 2012 with the aim of generating an active research dialogue in the humanities. Her goal is it to embed the research topic of her current project (“Emotion and the Formation of Imperial Mentalities”) in an interdisciplinary dialogue that connects the University of Vienna with recent international initiatives which aim to consolidate cognitive research in the humanities.

The LabVisit is meant to strengthen the cooperation among the large number of scholars in the humanities who apply research results of neuroscientific research to the study of language, literature, history and culture.

Where: Aula am Campus, University of Vienna
When: 7 June 2013, 1 pm – 5 pm
